M-I RENOVATION

This house started its life in the 1950s as a modest bungalow. During the 1990s, it underwent a major renovation, during which the main floor was expanded and a second storey was added. While these new areas were well-designed and executed, there was very little connection between the original house and the addition. The vertical circulation was broken up and segregated behind doors, and the staircase presented a significant safety hazard where it interfaced between old and new.

This most recent renovation tackled these issues by opening the vertical circulation core, installing a new landing in the stair between the original house and the 1990s addition, rearranging some utilities, and updating outdated systems to modern code requirements. Additionally, much cosmetic work was done, most significantly to the bathrooms of the house.
